YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola
Twenty-two commissioners in the Adamawa State Executive Council have formally declared their loyalty and support for Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri following his decision to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Out of the 25 commissioners in the state cabinet, 22 were present at a briefing held at the Government House in Yola, where they signed a joint declaration affirming solidarity with the governor’s political move. Three commissioners were absent, including Adamu Atiku Abubakar, Commissioner for Works and Energy, whose absence has stirred speculation within political circles.
The briefing was convened to demonstrate a united front in backing the governor’s decision, which the commissioners described as being in the “best interest of Adamawa State.” They stated that their collective action reflects a commitment to political stability, continuity in governance, and sustained development across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the cabinet members, Alloysious Babadoke, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; James Iliya, Commissioner for Information and Strategy; and Dr. Garba Umar Pella, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, emphasized that the governor’s decision followed extensive consultations and careful evaluation of the prevailing political climate.
According to them, their endorsement goes beyond symbolism and represents a reaffirmation of confidence in the administration’s development agenda.“I want to state categorically that on behalf of the undersigned Members of the Executive Council, we have collectively resolved to declare our total loyalty and commitment to the Fresh Air Administration by joining His Excellency in moving to the APC as our political party of choice,” the commissioners said in a joint statement.
They further pledged unwavering support for the governor’s leadership.“Let it be on record that we have vowed to follow the Governor wherever he deems appropriate because our support for him cannot be changed. Governor Fintiri has steered the state on the path of progress and elevated Adamawa to enviable heights as a model of development,” the statement read.
The commissioners praised the governor’s leadership qualities, noting that his governance style has created a conducive working environment and strengthened their resolve to promote the administration’s ideals.
However, the absence of Adamu Atiku Abubakar — son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar — has attracted particular attention. Political analysts suggest his non-appearance may indicate internal consultations or differing positions within the cabinet, although no official explanation has been provided as of the time of filing this report.
LlllThe development marks a significant shift in Adamawa’s political landscape, underscoring evolving alliances ahead of future elections and highlighting Governor Fintiri’s growing influence within the state’s power structure.
