Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper in Adamawa, Hunt for Accomplices Intensifies

The Adamawa State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on kidnapping and violent crime, with the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect linked to a kidnapping syndicate operating in the state.
The suspect, identified as Mohammad Kasimu Iliyasu, was apprehended by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) following what authorities described as credible and actionable intelligence. He is a resident of Doruwa Village in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to police sources, the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of a gang responsible for a series of kidnappings in communities across the Song axis. He reportedly named five other members of the syndicate, said to be armed with two AK-47 rifles and currently at large.
Investigators further revealed that Iliyasu admitted involvement in the abduction of a local resident, Alhaji Rabiu Haruna. The gang is said to have collected a ransom totaling ₦15 million, along with two Boxer motorcycles valued at ₦2.7 million, before releasing the victim.
Police say efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects and recover weapons and other items connected to the crimes.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Umar Hassan, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the protection of lives and property. He also urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to support ongoing security operations.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed that investigations are ongoing.The arrest marks another step in efforts by security agencies to curb the rising cases of kidnapping in parts of northern Nigeria.
