Members of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Adamawa State on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Wesley Bathiya, to seek closer collaboration in promoting legislative activities and grassroots development.
The delegation, led by Vice Chairperson Golfa on behalf of Chapel Chairman Ibrahim Kado, was received at the Assembly Complex in Yola. Speaking during the visit, Golfa highlighted the important role journalists play in bridging the gap between the government and the people.
She commended the 8th Assembly, particularly the Speaker, for the passage of 21 out of 50 bills within a short period—an achievement she described as unprecedented in the history of the state legislature.
In his response, Speaker Bathiya welcomed the delegation and praised the media for its role in promoting accountability, transparency, and public engagement.
He called on journalists to continue to uphold professional ethics and to deepen their partnership with the legislature.
“The relationship between the media and government, especially the legislature, is essential for democracy to thrive,” he said, assuring the journalists of the Assembly’s full cooperation.
The Speaker also appreciated the Correspondents’ Chapel for the visit and pledged that the synergy between the House and the media would grow even stronger in the coming months.
Other members of the Chapel who spoke during the visit lauded the Speaker’s achievements and encouraged the House to continue leveraging media platforms for wider outreach and increased public awareness of its activities.
