Electoral Fraud Must Be Punished to Save Democracy — Fintiri

YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf, Yola
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has reiterated that those responsible for electoral fraud and political manipulation during the 2023 governorship election must be brought to justice, warning that Nigeria’s democracy cannot endure if such actions are left unpunished.
The governor made the assertion on Monday in Yola at the formal launch of a book titled “Fintiri – The Man They Could Not Stop,” which chronicles the political intrigues surrounding the 2023 Adamawa governorship election and his eventual victory.
Speaking before an audience of governors, political leaders, religious figures and party supporters, Fintiri described attempts to subvert the will of the electorate as a serious threat to democracy in Adamawa State and Nigeria at large. He said the election revealed acts of treachery, moral compromise and the desperation of what he termed opportunistic elites masquerading as democrats.
The governor noted that the 2023 polls represented another phase in repeated efforts to derail his political career, describing himself as “a man of destiny” whose journey had been challenged on several occasions but never successfully obstructed. He disclosed that further details on the election and its surrounding intrigues would be unveiled in his future memoirs.
Fintiri commended the author of the book, Mr. Solomon Kumangar, describing him as a seasoned journalist whose work offers a pioneering account of the political developments that have shaped Adamawa State.
Delivering the keynote address, former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, described Fintiri as a bold and courageous leader, noting that his political journey provides important lessons for the growth of Nigeria’s democracy.
He added that the book contributes significantly to the political history of Adamawa State and offers younger generations deeper insight into governance and electoral politics.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the guest of honour at the event, described Fintiri as “a phenomenon,” praising his resilience and political strength. He said the governor’s story symbolises resistance against injustice and the triumph of the people’s will over political manipulation.
The book launch attracted dignitaries from across the country, including religious leaders, traditional rulers, party officials and other political stakeholders, many of whom commended Governor Fintiri’s leadership style and democratic credentials.Yahoo Mail: Search, Organize, Conquer
