Police Investigate Fatal Stray Bullet Incident Involving Customs Operatives in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 35-year-old man, Ibrahim Usman, who was allegedly hit by a stray bullet reportedly fired by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service during a patrol in Mubi.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m. in Mujara, a community in Mubi South Local Government Area of the state.
Responding to a distress call, officers from the Gude Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), arrived at the scene and evacuated the victim to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where he was later confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident, Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, said the Nigeria Customs Service has been officially notified, and operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have been assigned to carry out a discreet investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the shooting.
In a statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, assured the public that the case would be handled with transparency and fairness.
He emphasized that justice would be served and that the findings of the investigation would be made public once concluded.
