Adamawa Police Tighten Security Ahead of Ember Months, 2027 Elections

The Adamawa State Police Command has ordered intensified security operations across the state ahead of the Ember Months and the forthcoming electioneering period.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, gave the directive on Thursday during a strategic security review meeting with the command’s Senior Management Team, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), heads of departments and other senior officers.

The meeting reviewed security operations conducted in August, emerging security trends and the effectiveness of existing measures aimed at sustaining peace across the state.

Hassan commended officers and men of the command for their dedication and commitment to duty, particularly in maintaining security within their respective areas of responsibility.

He urged the officers to remain professional, proactive and responsive to the security needs of residents, stressing the need for stronger community engagement as part of efforts to prevent crime.

The commissioner directed DPOs to remain accessible to members of the public and ensure that official telephone numbers are prominently displayed at divisional police headquarters and other strategic public locations.

He said the measure would enable residents to promptly report security concerns and suspicious activities to the police.

Ahead of the elections, Hassan directed the command to intensify engagement with political stakeholders and youths across the state.

He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remained apolitical and would provide a level playing field for all political actors while ensuring public order and protecting citizens throughout the electoral process.

On traffic management, the commissioner directed Area Commanders and DPOs to work closely with relevant traffic agencies to enforce traffic regulations, particularly against reckless driving, overloading and obstruction.

He urged motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic rules, noting that strict compliance would help reduce road crashes and other incidents during the Ember Months.

Hassan also ordered increased patrols, intelligence-led operations and visibility policing at strategic locations, including highways, markets, worship centres, recreational facilities and other public places.

The command called on residents to remain vigilant and support the police by providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons, movements and activities.

It assured the people of Adamawa State of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace and ensuring a safe and secure environment throughout the Ember Months and the forthcoming electioneering period.
