Senator Binos Yaroe Donates Medical Equipment to Border Communities in Adamawa

YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf, Yola
Residents of border communities in Adamawa State will now have improved access to quality healthcare, thanks to the donation of critical medical equipment by Senator Binos Yaroe, who represents Adamawa South Senatorial District.
The donation was made to the Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) in Kajoli, Jada Local Government Area, under an intervention by the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA). The initiative is aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery in underserved communities along Nigeria’s borders.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Senator Yaroe, who also chairs the Senate Committee on State and Local Government Affairs and oversees the BCDA, said the intervention will benefit Kajoli and extend to the Fufore community.
“We are here today to support this community with healthcare equipment so residents no longer have to cross into neighboring Cameroon in search of medical care,” Yaroe stated. “Before now, this facility had good structures but lacked essential equipment. With this support, we now have hospital beds, surgical tools, and other vital medical supplies.”
The items donated include hospital beds, mattresses, operating tables, surgical instruments, wheelchairs, and sterilization equipment.
Representing BCDA Executive Secretary Dr. George Kelly at the event, Mrs. Roselyn Abuh, Director of Special Duties (Health, Education, and Social Services), explained that the agency’s mandate is to bring socio-economic infrastructure to over 3,000 settlements in 105 local governments across 21 states.
“Many of these communities are often overlooked,” she said. “This initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which ensures no region, particularly border areas, is left behind.”
She warned that when citizens have to seek basic services in neighboring countries, it can undermine national loyalty. “They are the first line of defense. If they don’t feel included, their allegiance may shift.”
Beyond healthcare, the agency also supports schools, water projects, empowerment programs, and plans to deploy mini-grid electricity in partnership with the Ministry of Power.
The gesture was widely welcomed by community leaders and stakeholders. Alhaji Kabiru Hayatu, District Head of Kajoli, thanked the senator and the BCDA, promising that the equipment would be well utilized.
Mercy Dauda, Permanent Secretary of the Adamawa State Boundary Commission, highlighted the lifesaving potential of bringing healthcare closer to remote populations, particularly for pregnant women and emergency cases.
Also speaking, Mrs. Helen Shamaki, Executive Secretary of the Jada Local Government Primary Healthcare Authority, described the donation as timely and pledged to ensure proper maintenance of the equipment.
Mr. Muktar Hamman, Facility Manager of Kajoli PHCC, confirmed that the intervention, along with the recent deployment of a medical doctor and support staff, has effectively upgraded the centre to a cottage hospital.
“With this support, we can now manage emergencies and conduct surgical procedures, not only for locals but also for nearby border communities, including Cameroonians,” Hamman said.
