The Adamawa State Police Command has dismantled a seven-member criminal syndicate responsible for the theft and illegal sale of tricycles and motorcycles in Yola metropolis.
The breakthrough followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out on June 24 by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), resulting in the recovery of two stolen tricycles and one motorcycle.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.
According to the statement, one of the suspects, Mohammed Alhaji, 25, of Hulere Ward in Yola North LGA, was first apprehended. During interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the syndicate and named an accomplice, Jafar Babangida, 19, also of Hulere Ward, as the individual who stole two TVS tricycles from different locations in the city.
Further investigations revealed that the stolen tricycles were sold to Ziyau Garba, 38, of Sangere, and Bawuro Ibrahim, 37, of Vinikilang. One of the tricycles was later resold to another buyer, Sahabi Mohammed, 35, also of Vinikilang in Girei Local Government Area.
In another case, Babangida was said to have stolen a Jincheng motorcycle, dismantled it, and, with the assistance of 15-year-old Lukman Usman, sold its parts to Auwal Musa, 30, of Nyakore Ward in Yola North.
All seven suspects have been arrested and reportedly confessed to their roles in the criminal network.
Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, praised the swift efforts of the operatives and urged the public to continue supporting the Police with credible information to aid the fight against crime.
As of press time, investigations are still ongoing, with authorities working to recover additional stolen property and apprehend more individuals linked to the syndicate.
