Adamawa Police Arrest Three Suspected Shilla Gang Members in Fresh Crackdown

YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola
The Adamawa State Police Command has intensified its fight against Shilla gangsterism and violent crime, recording another major breakthrough with the arrest of three suspected criminals in separate operations across Yola metropolis.
The Command said operatives attached to the Doubeli Divisional Police Headquarters arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Abdulmalik Mohammed, over an alleged armed robbery incident that occurred along the Doubeli Bye-Pass on June 12.
Police spokespersons said the suspect, a resident of the Zango area, allegedly attacked a passenger travelling in a commercial tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep, with a cutlass before making away with the victim’s mobile phone.
The suspect was apprehended by members of the public after the victim raised an alarm. However, police officers promptly intervened and rescued him from an attempted mob attack before taking him into custody.
Investigations later linked Mohammed to several theft cases within Yola metropolis, including the alleged theft of a sewing machine at Tsohon Kasuwa. Police said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal network.
In a separate operation carried out on June 14, police operatives on confidence-building patrol arrested two suspected Shilla gang members, Abba Abdullahi, 17, and Abdulrahman Saidu, 16.
The suspects were reportedly found in possession of dangerous knives believed to have been intended for criminal activities at a birthday party.
Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism. He reiterated the Command’s resolve to dismantle Shilla gangs and other criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.
The Commissioner also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality.
The latest arrests highlight the Command’s sustained efforts to combat crime and strengthen public safety across Yola North, Yola South and surrounding communities.
