The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 57 suspects during a coordinated operation aimed at combating Shilla gangsterism, drug abuse, public nuisance, and other criminal activities across parts of the state.
The operation targeted identified criminal hideouts and black spots in Jimeta, Girei, and Yola Town as part of ongoing efforts by the command to improve public safety and rid communities of criminal elements.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, with the participation of Divisional Police Officers supervised by their respective Area Commanders.
According to the police, the exercise focused on dismantling criminal networks linked to Shilla gangs, which have been associated with street violence, drug abuse, public disturbances, and other forms of criminality in the state.
The command said 57 suspects were arrested for offences ranging from alleged involvement in gangsterism and public nuisance to possession of dangerous weapons and prohibited substances.
Police operatives also recovered dangerous weapons and suspected illicit substances during the raid. The exhibits, according to the statement, have been documented and will be tendered as evidence during prosecution.
The command disclosed that the suspects have been charged to court, while investigations are continuing to determine their possible involvement in other criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police Kabiru Umar Hassan commended officers who participated in the operation, describing their conduct as professional and dedicated. He reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal gangs and maintaining peace across the state.
“The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to dismantling criminal gangs and restoring lasting peace in all parts of the state,” Hassan said.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information that could aid crime prevention and detection.
The Adamawa State Police Command assured residents that similar operations would be sustained as part of efforts to strengthen security and maintain law and order across the state.
