Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Community Development Service (CDS) group have carried out a medical outreach benefiting more than 150 residents at the Malkohi IDP Camp.
The outreach, held to mark World Malaria Day, was organized in collaboration with Jagamato Community Development Initiative, Future Africa Leaders Foundation, and the Jamil Hakeem Foundation.
During the exercise, beneficiaries received free malaria testing and treatment, as well as insecticide-treated mosquito nets aimed at curbing the spread of the disease. Corps members also conducted sensitization sessions, educating residents on preventive measures against mosquito breeding and malaria transmission.
Speaking during the outreach, the CDS group emphasized the importance of environmental cleanliness in reducing malaria cases. They noted that proper sanitation remains a critical factor in controlling mosquito populations, adding that maintaining a clean environment can significantly limit the spread of the disease.
“Malaria is preventable, and one of the most effective ways to fight it is through proper sanitation and hygiene practices,” the corps members said.
In addition to the medical intervention, participants engaged in a sanitation exercise within the camp to reinforce the campaign’s message on environmental health.
The event concluded on a lively note as corps members organized recreational activities for children in the camp, including a dance competition that brought moments of joy and relief to the young participants.
