ADC Supporters Protest Alleged Plot to Replace Adamawa Governorship Candidate

Supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday staged a protest in Adamawa State over allegations that there are moves to replace the party’s governorship candidate, Ambassador Engineer Omar Suleiman Omarana.

The protest follows claims circulating within political circles alleging that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is behind efforts to substitute Omarana as the party’s governorship flag bearer.

However, no evidence has been publicly provided to substantiate the allegations.

Demonstrators, who marched through parts of Yola and other areas of the state, carried placards and chanted solidarity songs in support of Omarana.

They insisted that he remains the duly elected governorship candidate, having emerged through the party’s primary election.

The protesters called on the ADC’s national leadership to uphold the outcome of the primary and resist what they described as attempts at external interference in the party’s affairs.

They also warned that any move to replace the candidate could create internal divisions and undermine the party’s preparations ahead of the governorship election. The group urged party stakeholders to respect democratic processes and the outcome of the party’s primary.

As of the time of filing this report, the national leadership of the African Democratic Congress had not issued any official statement confirming or denying reports of a planned replacement of the party’s governorship candidate in Adamawa state. Similarly, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had not publicly responded to the allegations.
