Fintiri Commissions Reconstructed Yola Market, Declares End to Recurring Fire Disasters

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has commissioned the newly reconstructed Yola Market, declaring that the project marks the end of the recurring fire disasters, poor sanitation and congestion that had plagued the market for decades.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Yola, Governor Fintiri said the reconstructed facility, now officially renamed Modibbo Adama Modern Market, Yola (MAMMY), reflects his administration’s commitment to providing modern infrastructure that promotes economic growth, protects livelihoods and restores public confidence.
The governor described the old Yola Market as a congested and unhygienic trading centre that had become notorious for frequent fire outbreaks, which repeatedly destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira, leaving many traders with devastating financial losses.
Rather than attributing the recurring disasters to superstition, Fintiri said his administration chose a practical and lasting solution by demolishing and rebuilding the market with modern facilities designed to enhance safety and prevent future fire incidents.
According to the governor, the modern market consists of 936 shops, comprising 816 lock-up shops and 120 open stalls, alongside upgraded infrastructure aimed at improving security, sanitation and the overall trading environment.
To ensure proper management and sustainability of the facility, Fintiri directed the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industries to engage professional facility managers to oversee security, sanitation and routine maintenance.
He expressed confidence that the modern market would provide a safer and more conducive environment for businesses to thrive while boosting commercial activities in the state.
Governor Fintiri formally announced that the reconstructed market would henceforth be known as the Modibbo Adama Modern Market, Yola (MAMMY).
