Mubi (Adamawa), July 10, 2026 (NAN) Alimat Care Foundation (ACF), an NGO with support from AmplifyChange, has concluded a three-day capacity-building training for 60 adolescent girls in Adamawa.
Ms Yinasim Dagal, Programme Lead, ACF, disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the training on Friday in Mubi.
Dagal said the programme targeted students from schools in Maiha, Michika, Mubi North and Mubi South Local Government Areas.
She said the training was implemented under the Breaking Barriers: Advancing SRHR for Women and Girls through Policy and Cultural Transformation project.
According to her, participants received training on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), leadership, communication, advocacy, self-protection and safeguarding.
“The initiative was designed to equip adolescent girls with accurate information, life skills and confidence to make informed decisions about their health and future.
“Many girls face challenges, including misinformation, harmful cultural practices, peer pressure, gender-based violence and limited access to SRHR information and services.
“The programme, would help the girls protect themselves against abuse and other harmful practices,” she said.
Dagal said participants wereintroduced to the proposed Breaking Barriers Girls’ Clubs, which would provide platforms for peer learning, mentorship and advocacy.
She expressed optimism that the clubs would sustain awareness on girls’ rights and promote positive behaviour in schools.
Also speaking, Mrs Hajara Ibrahim, a guidance and counsellor from the participating schools, said the training would improve the girls’ confidence and decision-making abilities.
Ibrahim said the knowledge gained would help them avoid abuse, harassment and other harmful practices.
She expressed confidence that the proposed Girls’ Clubs would enable participants to continue learning and support other girls in their schools.
Mr Godwin Bernard, Divisional Inspector of Education, Mubi South LGA, described the initiative as timely and beneficial in nurturing responsible young leaders.
Bernard urged participants to share the knowledge acquired with their classmates and peers.
Miss Miracle Ozioma, an SS1 student, said the training had increased her awareness of personal rights and consent.
Ozioma said she had learned the importance of speaking to trusted adults whenever she felt unsafe and making informed decisions.
She thanked ACF for the opportunity and pledged to share the knowledge gained with other girls in her school. (NAN)
