HUBA PEOPLE HAIL FINTIRI FOR RESTORING CHIEFDOM AFTER 120 YEARS

The people of Huba have expressed deep appreciation to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State for restoring the Huba Chiefdom after more than 120 years.

The long-awaited coronation of the Tol Huba, His Royal Majesty Alheri Bulus Nyako, is set to take place on Friday, marking a historic milestone for the Huba community.

Speaking at a press conference in Yola on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Coronation Committee and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Idi Hong, commended Governor Fintiri for fulfilling the long-standing aspirations of the Huba people. He emphasized that the restoration of the chiefdom was not just an act of goodwill but a fundamental right of the community.

Dr. Hong recalled that the Huba Chiefdom was an independent entity before colonial rule, with its leader wielding full authority. However, colonial interference led to its systematic downgrading, reducing the Tol Huba to an ungraded District Head under the Adamawa Emirate.

He described Governor Fintiri’s intervention as a turning point in the history of the Huba people, praising his commitment to justice, equity, and inclusiveness.

“The emergence of Governor Fintiri marked a turning point in the struggle for the independence of the Huba Chiefdom,” Dr. Hong stated. “His dedication to fairness made it unsurprising that he took the bold step of restoring our chiefdom, honoring our heritage, and empowering our people.”

As part of the restructuring, Governor Fintiri also expanded administrative governance in the chiefdom, creating fourteen new districts, including Hong, Shangui, Pella, Uding, Kulinyi, Hyema, Gaya, Hildi, Mugwahi, Mayo Lope, Gashala, Uba, Mufa Dugwaba, and Yadul.

Dr. Hong urged all sons and daughters of Huba, both at home and abroad, as well as well-wishers, to attend the grand celebration, where Governor Fintiri will officially present the staff of office to the newly restored traditional ruler.

He described the event as a testament to the resilience and unity of the Huba people, who have long awaited this moment in their history.
