The Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, has formally matriculated 8,591 undergraduate and postgraduate students into various programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Ibrahim Umar, congratulated the newly admitted students and urged them to take their academic pursuits seriously, emphasizing the importance of discipline and responsibility.
“As you begin this journey, you have not just gained admission into a university; you are embracing responsibility, committing yourselves to academic excellence, discipline, integrity, and the pursuit of knowledge,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor warned that the institution maintains zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices, stressing that any student found culpable would face strict disciplinary action.
Umar also revealed that the university admitted 132 international postgraduate students for the session, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards and discipline.
Highlighting recent developments, he noted that the university has expanded academically with the addition of three new faculties: Communication and Mass Media Studies, Computing, and Arts.
On infrastructure, the Vice-Chancellor described the provision of a steady power supply as a major milestone, noting that the campus now enjoys 24-hour solar-powered electricity to support learning and research activities.
He further disclosed that additional hostel projects are underway to address accommodation challenges, acknowledging that some students experienced initial difficulties in securing housing.
“We are not unmindful of these inconveniences, and proactive steps have already been taken to address them,” he assured.
Umar concluded by wishing the students a successful academic journey, urging them to strive for excellence, personal growth, and meaningful achievements throughout their time at the university.
