NUJ Adamawa Correspondents Chapel Organizes Medical Outreach in Yola

YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola
The Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, has organized a medical outreach for its members and residents of Yola, providing free health checks and screenings.
The outreach, held at the NUJ Secretariat, featured screening for HIV, Hepatitis B, and other sexually transmitted diseases. The initiative attracted a large number of participants, including journalists and members of the public.
The programme was put together by the leadership of the Correspondents Chapel as part of activities marking one year in office of the current executive.
Speaking during the event, NUJ Chairman, Ibrahim Abdullahi, described the initiative as a welcome development. He noted that the outreach was timely, as it benefited not only journalists but also the wider community.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the organizers for the gesture. They noted that it was the first time they had experienced such an initiative, adding that the tests would have cost them a significant amount of money if they had sought them elsewhere.
The outreach underscores the role of journalists beyond news gathering, highlighting their contribution to community development and public health awareness.
