Gov Fintiri Approves Relief for 15 Flood-Affected LGAs in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Government has approved the distribution of relief materials to residents of 15 local government arrears (LGAs) affected by recent flooding across the state.
The intervention, coordinated by the State Relief and Post-Recovery Committee, is aimed at providing immediate support to communities impacted by the disaster. The approval follows a needs assessment conducted in the wake of the flood incidents.
Chairperson of the committee and Deputy Governor of the state, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, announced the initiative during a briefing in Yola. She said the gesture was part of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of affected residents.
“As part of our response strategy, relief materials are being mobilized and will be delivered to all affected local government areas before the end of the week,” Farauta assured, noting that the uploading of materials had already begun at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) warehouse.
To ensure fair and transparent distribution, the state government has set up local relief committees in each of the affected LGAs, to be chaired by the respective vice chairmen of the councils.
The committee also announced the approval of short-term seed distribution to enable farmers to make the most of the remaining rainy season. Residents in flood-prone areas were urged to relocate to higher ground as further rainfall and potential flooding are expected in the weeks ahead.
The affected LGAs include Fufore, Demsa, Numan, Gombi, Lamurde, Shelleng, Jada, and Ganye. Others are Song, Girei, Yola North, Guyuk, Mayo-Belwa, Hong, and Maiha.
While the floods damaged property and farmland in these areas, no loss of life was reported—unlike previous years, such as the 2022 incident in Yola South which claimed 29 lives.
The state government said it remains committed to strengthening its disaster preparedness and response systems to mitigate the impact of future natural disasters.
