Governor Fintiri Declares Monday Work-Free Day in Honour of Tukur

YOLA —Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, has declared Monday, 14 September 2026, a work-free day in Adamawa State in honour of the late elder statesman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, former Governor of the defunct Gongola State.

In a press statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Humwashi Wonosikou he pointed that the declaration is for Monday, 14 September 2026 only, to enable the people of Adamawa State to continue to pay their last respects to the late statesman and reflect on his life and legacies.

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was laid to rest in Yola on Sunday, 13 September 2026, following funeral prayers held at the Lamido’s Palace.

Governor Fintiri said the work-free day is in recognition of the immense contributions of the late Tukur patriarch to the growth and development of Adamawa State and Nigeria.

As part of the three-day mourning period declared by the State Government, all flags will continue to fly at half-mast across the State throughout the mourning period.

Governor Fintiri urged the people of Adamawa State to use the work-free day to pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed and to ask God to grant his family, friends and the people of Adamawa State the fortitude to bear the loss.

All essential services are, however, expected to continue to operate.
