P-GAT to Empower 2,000 Tricycle Riders, Recruit 500 Agents in Adamawa

P-GAT Industries Ltd. is set to expand the implementation of its ATRaS Mobility Ecosystem in Adamawa State, with plans to support 2,000 fuel-powered tricycle riders and recruit up to 500 agents in the next phase of the programme.

The initiative, according to the company, is aimed at addressing rising transportation costs by reducing the operating expenses of tricycle operators and improving the affordability and efficiency of transport services for commuters.

Under the ATRaS 2,000 Rider Relief and Welfare Support Programme, participating tricycle riders will be eligible for up to 50 per cent fuel subsidy, as well as health and medical support, repair and maintenance assistance, welfare benefits, and education and career development opportunities.

P-GAT said the intervention would help reduce the financial burden associated with fuel and vehicle maintenance, thereby improving the earning capacity of operators and creating room for lower transportation fares.

The initial phase of the programme will cover Numan, Yola and Mubi, where the company plans to establish a stronger operational presence within the state’s transportation sector.

P-GAT is also recruiting up to 500 ATRaS agents to support rider and customer registration, onboarding, product distribution and community mobilisation across the three locations.

According to the company, the agents will serve as a link between tricycle riders, commuters and the wider ATRaS Mobility Ecosystem as the programme moves into daily operations.

The company clarified that participation in the programme is not limited to operators of electric tricycles, stressing that existing fuel-powered tricycles can serve as an entry point into the ecosystem.

It explained that participating mobility assets would progressively transition from fuel-powered to electric vehicles as the ecosystem develops.

P-GAT said the approach would enable existing operators to benefit from the programme while preparing them for a cleaner, more efficient and sustainable transportation system.

The company maintained that reducing transportation costs requires addressing the factors responsible for high operating expenses, particularly fuel and maintenance, rather than simply asking transport operators to reduce fares.

It said the broader objective of the ATRaS initiative was to support mobility operators, reduce transportation costs, improve commuter productivity and establish a more structured and sustainable transportation system.

P-GAT described Adamawa as an important starting point for the next phase of ATRaS implementation, noting that the long-term plan is to expand the ecosystem across the Northeast and other parts of Nigeria.

The company also disclosed plans to introduce the ATRaS model into strategic African markets, including Kenya and South Africa.

It said the expansion formed part of its broader ambition to develop a scalable African mobility solution while accelerating the transition towards sustainable electric transportation.
