NGO Trains Over 50 Primary School Girls in Yola on Good Reading Habits

El-ezhar Care Initiative (ECI), a non-governmental organization, has sensitized and educated over 50 pupils from Primary 5 and 6 on the importance of cultivating good reading habits.
The training session, held at Ladi Atiku Primary School in Yola, focused on promoting literacy and fostering a love for books and education among young girls.
The project, themed Promoting and Encouraging the Culture of Reading Among Pupils, aimed to reach children at a formative stage in their development.
Speaking during the event, the ECI Executive Director represented by the project manager Joshua James noted that the organization identified an urgent need to address the declining reading culture among pupils and students.
“With the high rate of decline in reading and the love for books, it has become necessary to create awareness and promote the culture of reading among schoolchildren,” she stated.
Pwamori Maureen Gambiye,Education officer ECI described teaching as her passion and expressed her commitment to helping children excel academically.
“Reading culture has been slowly declining, and I am determined to support ECI in raising awareness and sensitizing both pupils and teachers on the importance of reading,” she said. “We must sustain this standard to sharpen the minds of the younger generation.”
ECI described the engagement with the pupils as a fulfilling experience, highlighting that its mission is to amplify the voices of vulnerable women and children through humanitarian services and sustainable development initiatives.
The school management expressed appreciation to ECI for making a significant impact on the pupils’ reading habits, noting that the session left both staff and students excited and motivated.
