YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf
The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a newly married woman in connection with the alleged poisoning and death of her husband in Gauza village, Jahun Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam Anipr, the incident occurred on January 23, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased reportedly ate a meal prepared by his wife at their residence before he suddenly fell ill. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
Detectives from the Jahun Division were immediately deployed to investigate the incident, leading to the arrest of the deceased’s wife as the principal suspect. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to poisoning her husband’s food with rat poison. She further stated that she had sent her cousin to purchase the poison used in carrying out the act.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that she had been forced into the marriage by her parents, a situation she claimed contributed to her actions.
The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for a thorough investigation. Police authorities said the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, urging individuals facing family or marital challenges to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolution. It also warned against taking the law into one’s own hands, noting that such actions often result in irreversible consequences.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring justice and safeguarding lives and property across the state. If you want it shorter, headline-focused, or rewritten to match a specific outlet’s style (radio, online, or print), I can tweak it.Yahoo Mail: Search, Organize, Conquer
