87-Year-Old Arraigned Over Alleged Cutlass Attack on Adamawa Judge

An 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba of Korawa Village in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Yola for allegedly attacking an Area Court judge with a cutlass during court proceedings.

The incident occurred on August 31, 2026, at the Mayo-Ine Area Court in Fufore, where the presiding judge, Dauda Hamman, was hearing a case involving Garba and one Ismail Yusuf.

According to the Adamawa State Police Command, Garba allegedly attacked the judge with a cutlass and repeatedly struck his hand, causing grievous injuries.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and taken to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Fufore.

The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yola, on September 4, 2026, for further investigation and prosecution.

Following the completion of investigations, Garba was arraigned on Monday, September 8, before Chief Magistrate Court I, Yola, presided over by Chief Magistrate Ismail Bello Shelleng.

He was charged with one count of causing grievous hurt, contrary to Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.

The police prosecutor, ASP Zakka Musa, appeared for the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, during the proceedings.

When the charge was read and interpreted to him, Garba pleaded guilty and reportedly blamed the devil for his action, while expressing regret over the incident.

The court subsequently ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearing.

The police command said the case would be diligently prosecuted in accordance with the law.
