NEDC, Mata Nagari Foundation Support 2,500 Widows, Orphans and Vulnerable Persons in Adamawa

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC), in collaboration with the Mata Nagari Foundation, has reached out to 2,500 widows, orphans, and other vulnerable persons in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

The beneficiaries received relief materials, including bags of rice and spaghetti, in an intervention aimed at providing support and putting smiles on the faces of less privileged members of the society.

The Adamawa State Coordinator of NEDC, Barrister Khalifa M. Lawan, said the commission remains committed to supporting poor and vulnerable citizens through humanitarian interventions.

He explained that the partnership with Mata Nagari Foundation was initiated because of the foundation’s commitment to reaching out to those in need, adding that the collaboration was aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by widows and orphans.

“Supporting vulnerable people is part of our responsibility, and we are happy to partner with organisations that share the same vision of improving lives,” Lawan stated.

The President of Mata Nagari Foundation, Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Boda, said supporting vulnerable groups has been part of the foundation’s mission, noting that the organisation has previously assisted orphans with education and provided support to widows.

She expressed appreciation to NEDC for partnering with the foundation to make the intervention possible, adding that the food items distributed to the beneficiaries were provided by the commission.

One of the beneficiaries, Terisa John, who spoke on behalf of the widows, commended NEDC and Mata Nagari Foundation for remembering them during difficult times

She said the relief items would go a long way in supporting families, especially children who depend on them.
