Brigadier General Abdul Assumes Command of 23 Armoured Brigade

Brigadier General Adamu Umar Abdul has assumed command of the 23 Armoured Brigade following a handover ceremony held at the Brigade Headquarters on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Abdul, who becomes the 47th Commander of the Brigade, took over from Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, who has completed his tour of duty.

In his remarks, the new Brigade Commander congratulated Agwu on what he described as a successful tenure, noting that the commendations received by his predecessor from superior authorities demonstrated his diligence, sacrifice and contributions to the Brigade.

Abdul pledged to build on the achievements recorded under Agwu and sustain the standards established during his tenure.

He also appealed to his predecessor to remain available for guidance and counsel, stressing that his experience would be valuable in addressing operational challenges facing the Brigade.

The new commander charged Commanding Officers and other officers to demonstrate greater commitment to their responsibilities, while sustaining efforts to fortify their locations and enhance operational readiness.

Abdul, a member of the 48 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, was until his new appointment the Deputy Military Secretary 1 (Army) at the Army Headquarters Department of the Military Secretary.

In his farewell address, Agwu thanked the Chief of Staff, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers, officers and soldiers for their dedication and support throughout his tenure.

He urged personnel to redouble their efforts towards consolidating the Brigade’s operational gains and pledged to remain available for consultation when needed.

The handover marks the commencement of Abdul’s tenure as the 47th Commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade.
