Hardship: Husband Beat Nursing Mother for Allegedly Asking for Food

YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,YolaAs the result of hardship and economic instability a nursing mother have been reportedly beaten by husband for allegedly demanding for food at Nasarawo Borehole Behind AA Bashir Jimeta, Yola.An eye witness disclosed this to our reporter that the victim who is a mother of five children cried out for help as herself and the children had not eaten for the whole day due to the inability of her husband to provide for them.“It was a night of anarchy as she got into a huge fight with her husband, this peaceful woman is said to be my neighbor and I saw how her husband domestically violated her.“We believe that poverty is one of the reasons why my neighbor has been beaten his wife daily.“This is not the first time, severally the man will shut the door and keep beating his wife, we mostly hear her crying out for help” she narrated.According to her, they find out that the offence was that she kept asking for food for the family and not going to assist her husband at the shop to sell his goods.The eye witness added that the conversation between the husband and his wife, the husband stated that he will not give his wife money for food nor will he provide the food for the family until she has to contribute her quarter by appearing in his shop to sell his goods.The breast feeding mother of five is living in fear in her husband’s house and she is calling for help from all relevant NGO’s, GBV expects, FIDA and the ministry of women affairs.
